What sets us apart at Intown Piano? At Intown Piano you have a teacher who is also a performer and brings that enjoyment of performing and sharing music to the students. It is our unique perspective, the care and passion that goes into the time we spend with our students that creates a resulting sense of confidence and accomplishment from day one. Homeschool or traditional students, preschool - teenage children or adults, all are invited. Come see and hear our students any time. They would love to play for you and show what they've learned!
My background began with studying at Cadek Conservatory of Music in Chattanooga, TN where I was eventually awarded a teaching internship which I held for four years while earning my undergraduate degree. I have both bachelors and masters degrees in piano performance and have been teaching piano and theory for over 30 years. I've taught at Montessori schools, at the university level, and in many different states across the country.
Here at Intown Piano, each student receives a reserved lesson time and a fun learning experience based on not just learning to play, but learning music theory, composition, improvisation and performing. Lessons are conducted on either of two beautiful grand pianos: a Mason & Hamlin AA grand, or a Yamaha C7 semi-concert grand, so students enjoy working on their skills and look forward to lessons each week. We also have a high quality Yamaha digital piano that can be transported and used for performing in other places and in other styles. When we have recitals, they are in a professional performing environment complete with stage lighting and again, high quality grand pianos.
My teaching philosophy really culminated when I studied for my masters degree in piano performance at New Mexico State University under Dr. William Leland and Melba Halamicek. I was one of a class of about five performance students during my studies. Dr. Leland was my performance teacher and taught me the love of playing both for myself and audiences. Ms. Halamicek taught us to teach and transfer the passion and art of playing to our students.

I truly love performing as well as teaching and relating to all ages, and my students show it as they progress and gain self confidence and a love of music through their time with me. I've raised my family here and Atlanta is now my home.
